Polk’s RTi A9 Speakers Deliver Full-Range Performance
CIS-NC is Charlotte NC's Trusted Polk Audio Speaker Dealer!
Polk Audio’s RTi A9 freestanding loudspeaker is efficient, easy-to-drive, affordable and it has a small footprint.
There’s no question that over the past decade the performance characteristics of a typical in-wall or bookshelf loudspeaker have been greatly improved.
However, there is also no question that there is no replacing a full-range loudspeaker with their ability to provide high sound pressure levels (SPLs), dynamic sound reproduction capabilities and seamless, multi-octave soundstages.
Polk Audio‘s RTi A9 is an example of how manufacturers have evolved their in-room products to meet the needs of a much different consumer demographic that requires sleek industrial designs, unobtrusive room integration and reasonable price points.
Standing just under 49 inches tall the RTi A9 has a cabinet depth of 21.375 inches and a width of just shy of 9 inches.
Internally, the speaker employs three 7-inch polymer-composite woofers, two 5.25-inch polymer-composite midrange drivers and a single 1-inch silk-polymer, composite dome tweeter that operate together on 12dB crossover slopes (second-order).
The Maryland-based company also utilizes a ported cabinet design that includes its PowerPort Plus technology to help the speaker reproduce a frequency response of 18Hz to 27kHz, and it offers dual-binding post options for bi-wiring connectivity.
The RTi A9s run $1,699 per pair.

HD Guru: Bad Grades for DirecTV 3D
C.I.S. - Charlotte NC's Trusted Home Theater Experts!
HD Guru Gary Merson scores 3D content on DirecTV and the results are generally grim: “Take it off the air.”
Last week, DirecTV flipped the switch on a bunch of new 3D channels. It’s been a long time coming, but was it all worth the wait?
HD Guru Gary Merson has posted his review on the service provider’s first four 3D offerings. He looked at some of the programming from the exclusive N3D channel, which is a joint effort between DirecTV and Panasonic. Some of the content features the awesome power of 1080p/24. Don’t get too drooly, though; some of the content is in 1080i.
So what’s the verdict? Well, you might still be anxiously awaiting new content. Programs reviewed included:
* Wild Safari: An South African Adventure
* S.O.S Planet
* African Adventure: Safari in the Okavango
* Encounter In The Third Dimension
Using a good, old grading system, Merson says the first three programs averaged about a C on content. That sounds kind of crappy, if you ask me. In other words, you’ll watch it because that’s all there is. Even more depressing is that two of those Cs scored even worse when it came to 3D quality—with one getting a big, fat F.
“Safari in Okavango is poorly shot 3D, making viewing a strain, as ones eyes try to compensate for the discrepancies,” Merson says. “At this time we feel it would be best for DirecTV to take it off the air and only rebroadcast it if it can fixed in post production.”
Tell us how you really feel, Gary! He definitely does. Check out his full review at HDGuru.com.

DirecTV Flips Switch on New 3D Channels
C.I.S. - Charlotte NC's Source for Technology Answers!
July 1 marks the satellite’s launch of DirecTV Cinema and DirecTV On Demand content in 3D, as well as n3D powered by Panasonic.
Where’s all the 3D content, you ask? Check us out today, answers DirecTV.
No, there aren’t a whole lot of scheduling details, but today, July 1, DirecTV has begun offering 3D content on its DirecTV Cinema channel, DirecTV On Demand channel and, in conjunction with Panasonic, a new “n3D powered by Panasonic” channel.
Flip over to channels 104, 105 and 103, respectively, to give them a look-see. The n3D channel, before we knew its name, has been anticipated since back at CES when Panasonic announced it, and, of course, DirecTV is touting Panasonic’s sweet new VT25 series as the ideal set to watch the new channels on.
The n in n3D can stand for “Network” or “In” according to Panasonic CTO Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, who discussed 3D, Panasonic TVs and the launch of the new channel during a national webcast on June 30. He said Panasonic worked with DirecTV because of its variety of programming, its national footprint and its On Demand channel’s prowess. He also noted that based on his talks with other broadcasters, this is clearly just the beginning—on the heels of ESPN’s 3D launch and before Discovery Channel’s 3D endeavor with IMAX.
“Everyone is talking about some form of 3D, and it’s all driven by the interest of consumers,” Tsuyuzaki says. “As I talk to networks and broadcasters, at least a dozen networks are very interested, in my personal opinion.” He predicts the rollout will work its way from satellite providers like DirecTV to cable channels and then to the major networks.
Obviously movies will be the big draw to the Cinema and On Demand channels; DirecTV and Panasonic say the n3D lineup will be a mix of movies, sports and entertainment such as concerts. For now, who knows if it’ll just be a loop of Monsters vs. Aliens, World Cup soccer replays and Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana concerts. We do know that Wild Safari: A South African Adventure will be on at 9 p.m. tonight on n3D.
