SpeakerCraft Debuts Revolutionary A/V Distribution and Control System

SpeakerCraft announced its ground-breaking new Nirv A/V distribution and control system.
SpeakerCraft, the world leader in custom installed loudspeakers and electronics, announced a ground-breaking new A/V distribution and control system. Called Nirv, the new system will feature several innovations that will obsolete many of the current offerings on the market.
“Being allowed to create the product from the ground up with no legacy system requirements gave us incredible design freedom,” says Jason Craze, SpeakerCraft’s Director of Electronic Development, who headed up the project. “We wanted the system to be powerful, flexible, simplistic to program and to operate with unparalleled audio and video quality. Our team has hit it out of the park in every area.”
The system has a modular architecture instead of a massive central hub design. This means the dealer will only need to buy the pieces necessary for the specific system he has designed and upgrading or expanding is as simple as adding what is needed to the network. On screen programming is so easy and intuitive it can be accomplished on-site by virtually anyone on the project team.
All media, data, control, and communication signals are distributed through a single CAT5 cable making system wiring both simple and cost efficient. Beyond standard A/V distribution, the system also integrates theatre surround sound, home automation, and page / intercom into one easy-to-manage package.
“It’s the first system of its kind that allows the user to own the experience instead of having the experience dictated by the equipment,” said Jeremy Burkhardt, SpeakerCraft’s President. “The system is almost transparent bringing content and control to the fingertips of the user through either touchpanel keypads or while navigating a GUI on the video screen. The remote single-handedly takes the complexity out of owning this type of system. You have to experience it to truly understand what a landmark product this is.”
That experience will first be available at the Nirv dome in the SpeakerCraft booth at the CEDIA Expo. Dealers will be able to see a full demonstration and talk to members of the design team. Product will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2010.

Should You Buy a Demo HDTV?
C.I.S. - Davidson NC's Choice For 3d Media Room Sales & Design!
Before you buy, consider the lifespan of a TV that stays on all the time at full brightness, the accessories that get tossed, the quality of the new sets vs. the old, and more.
Retailers are clearing out their HDTV inventories to make room for the 2010 models, which are coming out in a burst, rather than the typical steady stream.
Should you go for a deal on an older model or wait for a shiny new one?
HD Guru Gary Merson breaks it down:
TV Improvements
On the larger LCD and plasma screens, the improvements are fairly substantial in terms of quality, connectivity and of course 3D.
“If you are looking for a higher end model or want 3D (all 40″ and larger), we recommend going for a 2010,” Merson writes.
Wear and tear
The one thing that tends to wear out on TVs is the light source. TV makers give us the specs for lifespan, but not for the life of a TV that’s on all the time at full brightness, as they would be on the retail floor.
Merson has some fancy tools for checking the age of a TV, figuring out its age and determining its lifespan.
Where’s the box?
Merson divulges this dirty little Best Buy secret, and apparently they’re not too happy about it:
Many retailers (including Best Buy) demo larger flat screen sets on the wall, which makes retailing sense. What doesn’t make sense is Best Buy’s wasteful and environmentally irresponsible policy of discarding cartons, packing materials, owner’s manuals, cables, accessories and, incredibly, sometimes even the remote controls and table stands!
Should you buy a demo?
Ultimately, Merson recommends against it for many reasons. Instead, he suggests this:
HD Guru recommends purchasing a new factory sealed closeout model if it’s at a substantial discount or go for a 2010 model. A demo unit should only be considered if you do not need to purchase replacement accessories and are offered a 40% discount (offer to pay less to the Best Buy store manager, who has demo price discretion) and even then only buy after you’ve checked the TV’s age and verified there’s no screen burn-in, scratches, chips, scuffs or bulb burnout.

Apple Sells 300,000 iPads on First Day
CIS - For All of Your Home Automation and Integration Needs!
iPad owners downloaded more than 1 million iPad apps and 250,000 e-books on Saturday.
Apple says it sold more than 300,000 iPads on the first day, including pre-ordered iPads sent to customers, retail sales, and deliveries to partners.
iPad owners downloaded more than 1 million iPad apps and 250,000 e-books on Saturday, the first day the iPad was available.
Apple is currently only selling Wi-Fi models of the iPad. The 3G version will be available in late April.
Kudos to those who braved the long lines this weekend. Clearly, you weren’t alone.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimated that by midnight Sunday, Apple will have sold 600,000 to 700,000 iPads, adding that there were 730 customers waiting to get inside the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in New York on launch day.
It took Apple 74 days to sell one million iPhones, and three days each to sell one million units of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, says Brainstorm Tech.
“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world,” says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “It’s going to be a game changer.”
